Paint Colour Trends for 2022

What are the paint colour trends for 2022?

With 2021 behind us, let's take a look at what 2022 has to offer. Here we review the paint colours and finishes which we feel will take centre stage for this coming year.

Green will come into its own and be a very popular paint colour choice in 2022 as we move towards a more calm and soothing palette. Green paint colours which will be increasingly popular this year are:

Green paint colours are often associated with health and revitalisation, greens are a lush and uplifting choice for any room in your home. They are unmatched in their ability to bring life to any space in your home, representing the balanced tones of nature and promoting a feeling of calmness and warmth. Using different shades of green in your palette will allow you to create different settings, from vibrant spaces to calming ones.

In addition to green paint colours we are seeing a move towards blues. Blue paint colours are a wonderful natural and calming colour tone, that can be added to any room of your home. A favourite paint choice for people everywhere, the colour blue is one of the most widely used in home décor.

Keeping with this trend, the Dulux paint colour of the year for 2022 is Bright Skies. Dulux has described this colour as "an airy, light blue" the colour was chosen as it "perfectly captures the optimism and desire for a fresh start that is the mood of the moment". Bright Skies shows a movement towards pastel colours which will be ever more popular this year.

Farrow & Ball Colour Trends 2022

Farrow and Ball have chosen five colours for their 2022 colour trends. These five trending paint colours are familiar hues that give your home a comforting look and feel.

“There is something inherently human in the colours that we are attracted to for 2022 as well as in the way we use them. They are an eclectic mix of the pure and the humble that evokes the warmth and harmony of a more innocent age while celebrating life today. Function goes hand in hand with ornament, using colours and finishes in unusual ways to celebrate the principles of utility, kindness and honesty”. – Joa Studholme, Farrow & Ball Colour Curator

Here are Farrow & Ball’s Colours of the Year for 2022

Farrow & Ball Paint Color - Babouche No. 233 - Yellow Paint Colour
Babouche No. 233 – Farrow & Ball Paint Colour

This lovely yellow colour will bring the sunshine into your space. Even though it’s a bright and bold colour, it won’t overpower your home. It works perfectly in a larger room and can be paired with Railings for a very modern feel.

Babouche No. 223 paired with the understated School House White work beautifully together. That brings us onto another Farrow & Ball colour for 2022 – School House White No. 291.

School House White from Farrow & Ball works beautifully in Irish homes. It is pared back, timeless and familiar without being cold. This soft off white is very functional and can be used throughout the home.

Breakfast Room Green is a cheerful and uplifting green, remaining lively in both bright sunlight or softer candlelight. When used alone on both walls and woodwork it becomes incredibly striking.

Stone Blue No.86 - Farrow & Ball Paint Colour - Blue Paint Colours

Stone Blue’s lively and saturated colour can be used alongside warmer tones such as Pelt to create an inviting vintage look, or the cooler Mole's Breath for a cleaner, more contemporary feel. When contrasted with Dimpse woodwork, however, it feels both distinguished and familiar.

Incarnadine No. 248 – Farrow & Ball Paint Colour - Red Paint Colours
Incarnadine No. 248 – Farrow & Ball Paint Colour

Incarnadine is unashamedly classic and glamorous. It can be used to beautiful effect in halls when offset with Tanner’s Brown on woodwork, or feel more edgy and graphic when paired with a bright white.

Full Gloss in Farrow & Ball will be increasingly popular in 2022. Full Gloss will make an appearance in sparingly and in surprising ways throughout the home. It can be used on a door or a kitchen unit for instance to add a modern feel with a suitably vintage flavour. This will add impact to features in the home and draw your attention.

We would love to get your thoughts on these paint colours. Also, we'd love to know what other colours you feel should be included in this list for 2022.
